UV-Birders:

Dan Crook raises an interesting question.

As a reminder, the stated purpose of the list is (quoting from the welcome
message sent to all new subscribers):

----------------------------------
What is the purpose of UV-birders?
----------------------------------
This list is for the exchange of information on bird sightings, bird biology,
birding events, and closely related wildlife/nature topics, focused on the Upper
Connecticut River Valley region of Vermont and New Hampshire. Postings may be
made only by list subscribers, but subscription is open to all.
----------------------------------

That said, information about obtaining bird houses might be of interest to list
subscribers. Here's what the same message says about advertising:

----------------------------------
ADVERTISING POLICY
UV-birders is not open to advertising of commercial ventures. Non-profit,
membership organizations with activities relating to birds/wildlife/nature are
welcome to post their events as long as they are free (or nominal fee) and open
to the public. Occasional reminders about environmental concerns are also
welcome.

List members who are engaged in commercial activities in birding or related
environmental areas may point this out with an extra line below their signature,
such as "nature photography classes" or "spring bird identification workshops"
or "international birding tours". A link to an informational web page is also
acceptable. This will allow interested members to learn about and privately
contact providers of such services.
----------------------------------

The key phrase of all this is probably: UV-birders is not open to advertising
of commercial ventures.

So, I guess the answer to Dan's specific question has 2 parts:

1. If the thing for sale (bird houses, in this case) is sold by or for the
financial benefit of an individual or a business, any advertising beyond a
simple one line reference/contact info in the member's signature is NOT allowed
by the policy.

2. If the thing for sale is offered by a "Non-profit, membership organization(s)
with activities relating to birds/wildlife/nature" in order to further it's
activities, a brief advertisement/announcement is allowed by the policy.

Hope this helps clarify things.
