A sub-zero start and chilly wind kept participants closer to their cars for this
year's count, but the sun was shining and winds subsided a bit over the course
of the day. Record counts this year included Red-bellied Woodpecker (two
previous records of singles), Hooded Merganser (up from a previous record of
35), American Robin (previous record 51), and Pine Siskin (previous record
575). The Snowy Owl on Jericho Rd was the first for the count since 1968, and
the Lapland Longspurs in Snowy Bunting flocks on Sykes Ave. WRJ and at the
Lebanon airport were the 106th species recorded in the history of the Hanover-
Norwich CBC.
Sincere thanks to all for a great effort - we hope to see you again next year.
Walter, Nancy, and Dan
