Hi,
Do any of you have labs with Pinnacle Studio installed on the computers
for video editing? We are running into a problem here as we think about
future expansion of a pilot we're about to do in the spring. Our IT
Helpdesk people want to be able to manage the lab with a Ghost console,
but since Pinnacle apparently does not sell a site license, it requires
reinstallation on each machine after any re-image process in order to
verify license keys. That's fine for our small language lab, but if we
scale the program to our other larger labs, it's not going to fit with
IT's service policies and we're getting a lot of pushback.

Why use Pinnacle at all? We've found that unless students are taking
courses that actually teach Adobe Premiere--which we do supply in our
multimedia labs--they have no simple way to edit videos and no training
or support available to them. In a current environment that refuses to
support Macs, iMovie is not the answer. Learning the ins and outs of
Adobe Premiere is a project in itself. Our faculty want to move into
the 'brave new world' of Web 2.0, but are being held back by IT
policies.

I'm wondering if any of you have found a way around this or a similar
problem, and would really like to hear it if you have!

Thanks,
Sue Breeyear
