Hi there,

You may be interested to know that we have just released version 3 of
the
NanoGong voice recording/playback applet, which can be used by itself or
integrated into the Moodle learning management system.

NanoGong version 3 has the following new features:

* Any recording can now be saved in either the original playback speed
or
with the adjusted playback speed

* There is now the ability to pause and resume at any time during
recording

* Significantly improved audio quality, without significant increase
in file
size

* Smaller applet size (now 190Kb)

* NanoGong, together with the Moodle integration code, is now an *open
source* project

* There is now an improved Moodle activity which allows multiple
messages to
be posted by a student

There are also some other changes including the ability to change the
background colour of the applet (to fit any web site colour scheme) and
various other fixes.

Updated information about NanoGong, including demonstrations and
downloads,
is available at the NanoGong website:

http://gong.ust.hk/nanogong

Here is a summary of all NanoGong features, both old and new.

* The NanoGong Applet*
(http://gong.ust.hk/nanogong/info_applet.html)

NanoGong 3 can also be used as a simple applet in a web page (without
Moodle) to let people

* record their voice

* play it back, at different speeds if desired

* save the recording to the local hard disk, preserving any changes in
speed, if desired

* send the recording to an arbitrary web site

If NanoGong is used by itself it doesn't need any complicated setup
procedure, and doesn't require a special server of any kind. NanoGong
works
over both unsecure (http) and secure (https) connections.

* NanoGong and Moodle Integration
*(http://gong.ust.hk/nanogong/moodle.html)

NanoGong 3, the newly released version of the applet, has been further
integrated into Moodle. Using NanoGong with Moodle you can

* create audio content using a specially extended HTML editor

* allow students to submit multiple voice messages to their teachers
using a
new Moodle activity (messages can then be graded by teachers).

* students can slow down or speed up the speed of the voice recording,
or
jump to any position in time in the recording, and save the recording to
their hard disk

This means you can put voice messages almost anywhere, such as
assignments,
forums and quizzes in Moodle.

*Try out NanoGong 3 *

You can try NanoGong 3 at the NanoGong website:

* Try out the basic NanoGong applet:
http://gong.ust.hk/nanogong/try.php

* Try out the use of NanoGong 3 in Moodle:
