interesting discussion on rescuing old files.
there are several places that provide this service for a fee.  you  
ship them your media and they ship back a CD with all of your files in  
original and updated formats.
our computer science department has a lab with old 3.5 and 5.25 floppy  
drives specifically for this purpose.
