Anything running OS 7.5 or earlier will open these--any system after
that will not. (And anything running OS 9 or later will not read
double-sided double density disks.)

I have some machines--where is your colleague?

As for converting the files to Word 07, first find Word 5, open the
files in that program, save as Word files. You may need another
intervening version to get them to 07--I am not certain that 07 will
open Word 5 files. I have done this. It is not fun. (And I have the
software.)
