Job Summary:  Under the direction of and in cooperation with the  
director, programs and develops interactive Web-based programs for  
language teaching, learning, and research; develops innovative uses of  
technology to support language teaching; works with faculty to design  
and create customize Web applications and technology-based solutions  
to support language teaching and learning. Duties associated with this  
position involve working on a video display terminal 50-75 percent of  
the time.

Minimum Requirements:  A bachelor's degree in computer science,  
information systems, business, or related information technology  
field, with coursework in an information technology specialization  
related to database and/or Web site programming; one to three years of  
related and progressively more responsible or expansive work  
experience in database and Web site programming; experience in  
designing and building interactive Web-based applications in a *nix  
using HTML (including CSS), JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL; or an  
equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications: Excellent communication skills; ability to  
work well in teams; willingness to continually advance technical  
skills through self-study; experience working with advanced Web  
programming and development environments, including Adobe Flash, Flex;  
experience in editing audio and video for Web-based delivery;  
experience programming the record and playback functions of Flash  
Media Server or Red5; experience implementing emerging technologies  
related to the delivery of content and interactive experiences over  
the Internet (e.g., content management systems, wikis, blogs,  
podcasting, Second Life); understanding of user-centered design  
processes, usability principles, and accessibility standards.
