We experimented a bit with NanoGong and with Gong server. We didn't do any load
experimentation or use either in production. We are using Wimba currently,
sometimes from moodle, sometimes standalone.

NanoGong seemed to work well - I was able to install, record, playback, and work
with the provided APIs without much difficulty. However, I wasn't able to get
the applet to work behind our campus authentication (pubcookie). This was a
deal-breaker for most of our applications. I'm hoping to take another look at
this as a summer project (but those get harder to fit in every year). I think
that NanoGong would probably work fine if you're using the default moodle
authentication.

We would like to be running Gong Server, but the documentation for
installing/running the server on a linux platform is quite cryptic, and we've
not been able to get it going. (it's been about a year - docs might be better
now.) It would be super if Gong Server were released as open-source, so we could
work on that. Currently it's free, but the code is not open.
