Carleton College invites individuals with: excellent computing skills, a keen
desire to enhance teaching through the application of information technologies,
and an enthusiasm for working with people, to apply for the position of Academic
Technology Assistant. The successful candidate will join the Academic
Technologists Team in providing faculty technology support.

This is a temporary, full-time (1.0) FTE, exempt, staff position available
October 1, 2008 through December 31, 2008. This position is not eligible for
Carleton College benefits.

Purpose of this Position:

The Academic Technology Assistant will collaborate with faculty and academic
staff to facilitate teaching and research. Explore new and innovative ways of
enhancing scholarly endeavors through information technologies. S/He will
provide assistance with technology research and exploration, consultation,
troubleshooting, and training as needed. The Academic Technology Assistant will
work closely with faculty in assessing, and implementing curricular uses of IT.
The Academic Technology Assistant will report to the Director of Information
Technology Services.

Responsibilities:

    * Maintain familiarity with the teaching and research practices and needs,
and provide appropriate information technology support, consultation, and
training.

    * Actively pursue knowledge of information technology applications in higher
education, and work with faculty to explore and implement new uses of computers
and networks in their teaching and research.
    * Stay abreast of desktop computing technology developments and products.
    * Coordinate with other staff to ensure successful delivery of curricular
applications in the student computing and residential network environments;
provide application training to classes of students as appropriate.
    * Other duties as assigned.
