Yesterday, while down in Brattleboro, I heard the very lovely song of a
tufted titmouse in some sumac singing outside our company's main office
which is adjacent to the West River. At first I thought it was a small jay
with its crested head.

Across the narrow river valley up on the steep wooded hillside, another bird
answered the first. This song and response went on for a long time and was
really wonderful. This is a delightful April after a very hard winter. T. S.
Eliot was wrong, at least for this year.
