Compass and Accuplacer have a wholistic assessement tool. Currently we
are fielding Accuplacer by the CollegeBoard. We like because of it's
ease of use. Compass has the advantages of allowing ESL students to be
given the native speaking formatted English questions based on how well
they perform on the ESL portion. Also, compass is approved for ABT
(Ability -to- Benefit) while Accuplacer is not. Yet, we feel Accuplacer
is easier to administer and manage the units between campuses. Both are
administered on the computer which may present an obstacle for those
students who are not really familiar with using a computer. Hope this
helps.

Does anyone have suggestions for ESL placement exams online? We are
currently
using BYU's WebCAPE online placement for Spanish and German, and are
looking
into a demo of WebCAPE for ESL, but I wondered if there might be other
options
known to the group.

These particular ESL students tend to be international graduate students
(as
opposed to international undergrads).

Thank you,
Jose
