This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Thursday, May 24th,
2007.
A BLUE GROSBEAK was seen in Stratham on May 23rd.
A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was seen near the Laconia Airport on May 20th.
A CLAPPER RAIL was first reported in Hampton Marsh from behind Little Jack's
restaurant on Route 1A in Hampton on May 19th, and was last reported on the
23rd.
3 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS were seen in Hampton on May 20th.
A first-summer plumaged LITTLE GULL was seen on Jenness Beach with a flock
of BONAPARTE'S GULLS on May 20th.
2 BLACK TERNS were seen on the Isles of Shoals, and 9 were seen on Moore
Reservoir in Littleton, all on May 17th; and 2 were seen on the Connecticut
River in Hinsdale and 1 was seen in Littleton, both on the 18th. Several
ROSEATE TERNS were seen on the coast during the past week.
A THICK-BILLED MURRE was seen along the coast in Hampton south of Great Boar's
Head for several days and was last reported on May 22nd. A RAZORBILL and 2
BLACK GUILLEMOTS were seen from the Isles of Shoals on May 22nd.
A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was seen at Warren Farm in Barrington on May 21st.
3 ORCHARD ORIOLES were seen at the Bellamy River Wildlife Management Area in
Dover on May 20th.
An UPLAND SANDPIPER was seen at the Pease International Tradeport on May
23rd.
An AMERICAN COOT and a SORA were reported from the Brentwood Mitigation Area
on May 20th.
Over 30 SNOW GEESE were seen in Chatham on May 22nd.
A flock of 160 BRANT was reported flying overhead in Rye on May 23rd, a
flock of 30 was reported from Newfound Lake on the 18th, and a flock of 22
was seen at Comerford Dam in Monroe on the 17th.
120 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were seen at the Comerford Dam in Monroe, and a
flock of 60 was seen on Moore Reservoir in Littleton, all on May 18th.
More than 250 AMERICAN PIPITS were reported from Bedell Bridge State Park in
Haverhill on May 19th.
Over 10 EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen at Pawtuckaway State Park in Nottingham
on May 23rd.
There were several sightings of migrating COMMON NIGHTHAWKS on May 22nd, and
23rd.
Reports of shorebirds from coastal locations during the past week included:
LEAST, SEMIPALMATED and WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, RED
KNOT, DUNLIN, BLACK-BELLIED and SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, and RUDDY TURNSTONE.
Reports of shorebirds from inland locations included DUNLIN, LEAST and
SOLITARY SANDPIPERS, and GREATER and LESSER YELLOWLEGS.
There were many migrant songbirds reported last weekend, including several
CAPE MAY, BAY-BREASTED, MOURNING and TENNESSEE WARBLERS. There were also a
few reports of YELLOW-BELLIED and OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHERS.
