Hello Wolfgang,
We at the LLC, Victoria University of Wellington, NZ are also intending
to build up a computer lab with sign language capabilities at the end of
this year. This to replace our current analogue lab containing VCRs, TV
sets and tandberg units. Since we already are using Sony Soloist and
Virtuoso in our other computer lab and are very happy with the outcome
and the support provided here in NZ, we are intending to purchase a
similar set up with Soloist/Virtuoso with video capabilities.
I can contact you with the outcome later in the year, beginnning 2008.
In the meantime, what problem do you have with video? (conversion,
format, storage)
How are you intending to use them? Do you wish the tutor to participate
in students's study, practice sychronously and control during exams?
(just as in a more conventional lab with a teacher console?)
Let me know if I can be of help. More details below on our project page.
I am also creating practice exercises for DEAF101 (NZSL) incorporating
video. It is in progress so you miht find some glitches but have a look
if you are interested to see what is do-able:

Kind regards to all

Subject: #8502 Sign Language LAb setup

Hi,
do we have any American Sign Language people on this list who can help.

The communications department is looking for a 20 place computer based
lab set up to teach ASL.
They have seen the Sanoko 300 from Tandberg and heard about the Sony ASL
set up.

Seems the real problem maybe the video part.

Any reactions, suggestions - on this list or in private are greatly
appreciated.

Wolfgang
