Japanese Instructor
Modern Language Department

The University of Wisconsin-River Falls, a member of the University  
of Wisconsin System, is located 30 miles from the Twin Cities of  
Minneapolis-St. Paul in scenic west central Wisconsin.  Year around  
arts, cultural and recreational events are easily accessible.  UWRF's  
6,000 undergraduate and graduate students pursue degrees in four  
colleges:  Arts and Sciences; Education and Professional Studies;  
Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Science; and Business and  
Economics. The University provides an excellent environment for  
learning, emphasizing the importance of faculty-student interaction  
in classrooms, laboratories, academic advising, and co-curricular  
activities.  A favorable student-faculty ratio affords opportunity  
for meaningful interchange between faculty and students.  Strong  
interests in teaching, research and community service are highly valued.

The Position:
The position is a part-time Academic Staff (non-tenure track)  
position for one year (with possibility of renewal).
Duties: to teach Elementary and Intermediate Japanese; to teach in a  
distance-learning environment (primarily using interactive 2-way  
videoconferencing); to teach an occasional Independent-readings  
course; to post and keep office hours;
Load: 12 credits (3 courses) for Fall and 8 credits (2 courses) for  
Spring.
Compensation is commensurate with qualifications.

Qualifications (Required):
M.A./M.S. in Japanese language or literature required.
Ph.D. in Japanese language or literature may be considered an asset
Teaching experience in area of expertise required.
Background in language pedagogy and interest in, or familiarity with,  
integrating technology in language learning a plus.
Ability to work with local colleagues and off-campus distance  
learning coordinators.
Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to diverse student  
populations and ability to contribute to the University's commitment  
to enhancing student awareness and appreciation of diverse ethnic and  
cultural heritages.
