Curriculum Supervisor of World Languages K-12
Certifications Required:  Supervisor, Curriculum and Instruction of
World Languages K-12 certificate

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  Under the general direction of the
Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Office of the
Deputy Superintendent for Instruction, Assessment and Accountability,
the Curriculum Supervisor is primarily responsible for planning,
implementing, and coordinating the K-12 world languages program;
evaluating and improving the quality of school world language
programs and instruction; and assisting in the provision of
appropriate curriculum materials, equipment and text.  The Curriculum
Supervisor reports to the Executive Director of Curriculum and
Instruction and works collaboratively with other Executive Directors,
Curriculum Supervisors, and administrative staff in developing
programs to promote student achievement.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Work directly in the schools with principals and
teachers to assure effective application of best practices in the
world language programming and instruction to enable all students to
attain a high level of language proficiency.  Administer the
district's online performance assessments and use the resulting data
to improve K-12 program articulation and instruction.  Plan,
facilitate, and /or conduct staff development for world language
teachers in management, and cultural updates.  Stay current with
world language research and resources and update PPS programs as
needed.  Facilitate curriculum updates (courses of study, syllabi,
course descriptions, assessments) and materials adoptions.  Work with
the PPS technology departments to implement and maintain the
district's online student practice program.  Initiate and write grant
proposals to solicit funding for programs that align with district
initiatives and manage funded programs and budgets.  Work with Human
Resources staff to test the language proficiency of teacher
candidates.  Work with the Executive Director of Curriculum and
Instruction to development the world language budget.  Publish and/or
present at local, state, or nation conferences.  Support district
level decision making and initiatives.  Attend various district
meetings and represent the school district with outside
agencies.  Perform other duties assigned by the Executive Director of
Curriculum and Instruction.


QUALIFICATIONS: Requirements: a Master's Degree; a minimum of five
years experience teaching a modern world language (other than
English); a Supervisor, Curriculum and Instruction of World Languages
K-12 certificate; extensive knowledge of world language pedagogy,
performance assessments (including ACTFL OPI), and use of technology;
curriculum development experience; demonstrated success in improving
student achievement in and urban school; knowledge of Pennsylvania
standards, initiatives, and assessments; and excellent presentation
and writing skills.

The above statement reflects the general activities considered
necessary to describe the principal functions of the job identified,
and shall not be construed as a detailed description of all the
duties that may be inherent in the job.

Salary range: $80, 878.00 - $92, 564.00

World Language Curriculum Coach
Certifications Required: PA Teacher certification in a modern foreign
language.

Job Summary:

Devote 100% of work time to successfully implement projects for the
three year US Department of Education - Foreign Language Assistance
Program (FLAP) Grant

Organize and conduct teacher meetings and professional development
opportunities
* Conduct technical training for teachers on various topics
including:  the on-line PPS Oral Proficiency Test, "PALS - Practice
Activities for Language Students" software, and MultiMode assessment;
rater training; and using data to inform instruction.
* Provide in-class support by demonstrating effective language lessons

Collaborate with the Curriculum Supervisor for World Languages,
district technology staff and outside consultants regarding:
* Databridge to link RTI and PPS ORALS+ and PALS software (to
disaggregate data by gender, race, etc., and provide longitudinal
data for the same cohort of students)
* RTI reports with drill downs for PPS ORALS  and MultiMode
assessments and PALS activities for the district, schools, and
students
* Assist with debugging of software as new LAPS program is phased in

Assist in leading teacher committees to develop world language
content materials
* Assessment tasks, PALS, Situations for Communication, etc.

Provide technical support during PPS ORALS and MultiMode testing and PALS
usage
* Disseminate testing information, schedule each class for testing,
provide computer updates for all labs testing, distribute headsets,
distribute student passwords, monitor and correct test uploads as
needed
* Provide direct support for teachers before and during actual testing
* Create technical manuals (PPS ORALS, PALS, and MultiMode assessment)

Collect, organize world language program data and create reports
* Including: workshop attendance by teachers, teacher/ school
assignment, teacher/ course assignment, assessment data, PALS usage,
world language e-mail groups, world language program profiles by
school

Assist in dissemination projects as required by the grant
* Develop and maintain the PPS world language website
* Assist in making presentations at the local, regional, and national
level (dissemination is required by FLAP)


Job Qualifications:
At least 5 years successful experience teaching a modern language.
Teacher certification in a modern foreign language. Technical
expertise using PowerPoint, Excel, setting up databases, creating
reports, program design, troubleshooting,  creating manuals for
software users, understanding of LAPS requirements, maintaining a
website, etc. Demonstrated success providing professional
development, in-class support, making formal presentations, and
facilitating / collaborating in committee work. Excellent
communication skills.


Salary range: Teacher Salary Schedule

Calendar Year: 10 Months
