David,

Great idea to have print materials in your center! As far as magazine
distributors go, for German language periodicals, GLP International is
very comprehensive and reliable. http://www.glpnews.com

For most of the other periodicals we subscribe to, I order directly
from the publisher, without the intermediary distributor. Generally this
is cheaper, although it can be difficult dealing with foreign
publishers.

However, a new system has worked well for me the past few years. I
hooked up with a local magazine shop, one that carries an assortment of
foreign language periodicals, and asked if they would send me certain
magazines on a schedule that I determine. This allows us to get several
normally weekly magazines only once or twice monthly instead of getting
them 52 weeks per year. Even though the price per magazine is a bit
higher this way, overall we save money, have more reliable service,
don't have to worry about renewals, and don't get magazines coming in at
times when we really don't need them, for example over breaks. Maybe
something to consider.

>Subject: Buying Foreign Films + Foreign Journal Subscriptions

From time to time I get instructors asking me to buy films from
Amazon.fr and other foreign vendors. In many cases these films aren't
available through Amazon.com or Facets.org. Anyone know of any good
sources stateside for hard to get foreign films? It really needs to be
a
business that is comfortable dealing with institutional ordering (i.e.
accepts purchase orders and the like).

Also, what's a good source for subscribing to foreign language
magazines? We've just remodelled part of our lab to accomodate a
reading
room, and I'd like to keep it stocked with a few general-interest
foreign language periodicals for the students to pick up and browse.

Any help would be appreciated.
