Assistant Professor or Instructor of French; full-time; tenure-track /
Director of Hasselmo Language Teaching Center beginning August 13,
2007. We seek an Early Modern or French Linguistics specialist with an
enthusiasm for teaching undergraduates French language and culture in a
small, residential, liberal arts college that has been recognized
nationally for its high academic quality. 60% of this appointment will
be to teach French language, culture, and courses in area of
specialization. 40% will be to direct our language/computer lab. The
successful candidate will have experience teaching all levels of
undergraduate French and proven experience with computer-assisted
language learning, management and support of PC systems, and web site
maintenance. Candidates must demonstrate an excellence and versatility
in the teaching of French at the undergraduate level. A commitment to
productive scholarship is essential. Native or near-native fluency in
French and English is required. Ph.D. in French by date of appointment
preferred; ABDs in French will be considered. Appointment will be as
assistant professor with Ph.D., as instructor with ABD. The latter must
have the Ph.D. conferred by January 31, 2008 for reappointment.
Potential for academic leadership in a liberal arts college will be
considered. RESPONSIBILITIES: Three courses per academic year;
supervising student workers in language lab; overseeing implementation
of software; advising faculty on uses of technologies related to their
courses; advising of students. A record of excellence as a
teacher/scholar is required for tenure/promotion. A commitment to
programmatic development in French is essential. Service/outreach is
considered important. Salary: Commensurate with experience. Candidates
