Residential College in the Arts and Humanities

Director, World Languages Proficiency Center


Michigan State University seeks a dynamic and innovative Director of 
the World Languages Proficiency Center (WLPC) in its new Residential 
College in the Arts and Humanities (RCAH), which will welcome its first 
entering class in Fall 2007. This is a three year fixed-term Academic 
Specialist appointment on an annual (12 month) basis. Starting date as 
soon as possible. Ph.D. in a language-related field required with 
knowledge and/or experience in testing and assessment, and/or teacher 
training.

In the first year of this position (2006-07) the WLPC director will 
establish proficiency assessment, testing, and placement procedures for 
RCAH students in Spanish, French and German; initiate new electronic 
language learning environments; train qualified graduate students as 
testers; and develop instructional and co-curricular modules. In the 
second and third years the director refine placement and proficiency 
assessment, phase in proficiency assessment  for other languages, 
develop proficiency certification procedures, and  develop language 
immersion and service-learning experiences. Depending upon 
qualifications, s/he may also teach RCAH 390 (World Languages and 
Culture).
