It is possible that the tech support says this because region free
players are illegal and can't be officially supported (or manufactured)
by the company. So far as I know nobody has ever been prosecuted for
making, selling, or using such a machine, but the 2003 court ruling
suggested that the manufacturers ought to be the first to be prosecuted
if anyone wants to test the law.

Doug,
We purchased 2 of these last year, and they have been working fine for
our purposes.
