Joseph,
I've got quite a bit of experience with Flash Media Server development and
just wanted to point out that a quick and easy solution for what you
describe might be to just use the VTR mode (i.e., playback mode) of your
Mini-DV video cameras instead of the recording mode. So, you can still
shoot with your Mini-DV cameras and then when recording to your Flash
interface, just put the camera in VTR mode, rewind the tape to where you
want to begin, press "Record" on your Flash interface and "Play" on the
camera and your recording will be grabbed on the server just as if it were
live. You will probably want to optimize the recording settings on the FMS
server side for this purpose. Here's a short article on that topic:

Also, if I recall correctly, there might be a problem with this method
when grabbing audio and video from a Windows-based PC. (At least with
Flash player 6 there was. Macs don't have this problem and it may have
been fixed with the release of Flash players 7 and 8.)
