The department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Rhodes College 
invites applications for a full-time position at the Instructor level 
(non-tenurable), teaching one section of Chinese (or Spanish) 
language each semester and overseeing the department's Language 
Learning Center (LLC). This appointment will begin on August 15, 
2006.  The successful candidate will be expected to: teach one course 
in Chinese (or Spanish) each semester; oversee management of the LLC; 
hire, train and supervise student staff to run the LLC;  work with 
faculty on utilizing existing and new technologies for language 
learning and for classroom and computer learning environments; 
research and/or develop new technologies for language learning, 
especially multimedia and software applications;  trouble-shoot 
language laboratory equipment and systems; collaborate with faculty 
to secure internal and external funding to enhance instructional 
technology in the department.  This individual will annually assess 
departmental technology needs, with input from faculty and student 
constituents, and will conduct evaluations of the effectiveness of 
our resources.  The new director will also assume primary 
responsibility for the department's website and work with the chair 
on the departmental newsletter.  Qualified candidates will have at 
least an MA in Chinese, Spanish, or Applied Linguistics and two years 
of experience working with instructional technology-related 
materials, and one year of teaching experience.  Please send a cover

letters of recommendation to the Chair, Department of Modern 
Languages and Literatures, Rhodes College, 2000 North Parkway,

immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
