Hi

We have been using a product from Adobe called Audition for a couple of
years now. It was the source code for CoolEdit that Adobe bought out and
repackaged as it's own. It works very nicely and the educational price
is very reasonable.

I'm a big fan of the digital audio recording products put out by NCH in
Australia, particularly RecordPad and Switch - download full demos here:

http://www.nch.com.au/recordpad/index.html

RecordPad's interface is intuitive and virtually idiot-proof while
remaining rich enough for many purposes (re-recording, forcing
user-chosen file names, setting beeps between sections, pausing) and
makes nice wav or mp3 recordings. Don't know about its time limit, that
might be determined by how you set the recording quality & the space on
your hard drive. 30min is a big recording.

What I really like: you can set up RecordPad's preferences to store the
recorded files on any server via ftp, mirror them in a network folder or
forward copies via email. All this behind the scenes so you aren't
required to make recalcitrant faculty/students learn how to adjust the
settings.

I'm on Mac, but the product is cross-platform and NCH is largely a Win
developer so it should be as satisfactory for Windows as it is for us.

Audacity is a decent program and it is free. Just do google search.
