What I did was use an Applescript to tell image Events to make a 
thumbnail, always saving the thumbnail to the same place with the 
same name, Then use FM's Insert picture to go there and get it.

Image Events is bloody slow, though.

While we're here, is there anything standard on a Mac that can read 
the caption information from a file?
