Hi Joseph,


I was playing around with Odeo a bit this week as well.  It looks 
well-organized & cleanly designed, though there are the usual issues 
with publication control/privacy of student material that will be 
evaluated for grades, etc.

If I may recommend something, I've found a new solution for my own 
audio/video blogging needs: www.loudblog.de.  It's an open-source audio 
blog, easy to set up on any server running PHP and MySQL/phpMyAdmin.  If 
you know any html/css design & a modicum of PHP, you can pretty easily 
convert the Loudblog template into a class audio blog - or use it as 
is.  It also plays video files, so it can be a video blog, too.  Or a 
podcaster with built-in RSS support.

I like it because the students can see immediate results when they 
upload, faculty can create galleries of student work or specify the 
various viewing/downloading permissions, and it's all wrapped in a very 
hip little package with integrated Flash player or QT player accessible 
from any browser. And above all, once it's running, my presence as LRC 
manager is no longer demanded for any part of the storage process: I 
just give them an introduction to digital media recording and file 
formatting, demonstrate the interface, and let 'em loose.

(I've actually put ours on a secure campus-access-only server in the 
attempt at reducing the privacy concerns a wee bit.  Owning one's own 
instance also helps in terms of control over file upload size & the 
total server storage space allocated for these sometimes fairly bulky 
files.) 

I'm just getting started with media blogging for classes, but if anyone 
desires, I can report back in a bit on any successes ... or stellar 
flops ... implementing a tweaked Loudblog.
