Joseph,

I've found, with Office in other languages, that disabling the automatic 
language detection feature, selecting all your text and then manually 
telling Word what language it's supposed to be, helps.

Go to Tools > Language > Set Language... and uncheck "Detect language 
automatically". Then select your text and go to Tools > Language > Set 
Language... again and choose the appropriate language.
