Dear all,

My name is Edwige Simon, I work for the Anderson Language Technology Center at
CU Boulder as a Foreign Language Technology Specialist
(http://altec.colorado.edu). A couple months ago, I had posted a message
inquiring about existing programs in Instructional Technology and Foreign
Languages in the US. The reason why I am looking into existing models is that
ALTEC is working on revamping the curriculum of the Language Technology
Certificate.

I received several answers and also many requests to post the results of my
inquiry. Unfortunately, the e-mail account I was using back then was cancelled
so I apologized if I did not answer to the questions/remarks you may have sent
me after that.

You will find below a detailed list of the programs I have found. You will
notice a great variety in scope and models. Some programs are PhDs (or M.As) in
education with a focus on IT, others are M.As in CALL; There are also degree and
non-degree Certificate programs like ours. All of these programs exist but are
not necessarily active at the moment.

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you find any inaccuracies or if you
would like to add to list.

1. University of Iowa, Iowa City (credit)

The University of Iowa offers a PhD in Foreign Language Acquisition Research and
Education. Students can specialize in Instructional Technology.

Web address:
http://intl-programs.uiowa.edu/academic/flare/

2. Northern Illinois (credit)

The university of Northern Illinois offers a certificate program called Foreign
Language Instructional Technology Graduate Certificate Program.

Web address: http://www.forlangs.net/certificate.php

It is an intensive summer program (6 weeks) offered to pre-service and
in-service teachers (K through post secondary.)

3. Middlebury (inactive)

Middlebury does not offer any Language and Technology summer seminar but they
used to. The CET stopped offering a summer program for Graduate students on
teaching foreign languages with technology because they ran out of funding.
They do offer a program called Advanced Students Technology Program
(http://cet.middlebury.edu/prgm_regional_astp.php).

4. Carnegie Mellon (credit)

Carnegie Mellon offers an M.A in CALL: http://ml.hss.cmu.edu/call/indexi.php

5. University of Wisconsin Oshkosh (credit)

The university of Wisconsin (Oshkosk) offers a Foreign Language Educational
Technology Certificate Program:

6. New York at Stony Brook (inactive)
This PhD program is inactive at the moment. It has produced students in the
Doctor of Arts in Foreign Language Teaching program with a concentration in
Language Center Directorship.

7. University of Tampa Language Lab
I am not sure what type of Language Technology program Tempa offers but it was
submitted to the list.

8. The University of South Florida

The University of South Florida offers a PhD in SLA/IT (Second Language
Acquisition and Instructional Technology) : http://www.coedu.usf.edu/slait/

Thank you!

Edwige Simon.
