I have forwarded this question to the faculty that I support. From my
obersavtion, our lab is used to give students time to practice
pronunciating the words, listening to the appropiate diction, and
listening to the language in action. Also, the instructors forces the
students to work in groups practice conversations. We have a classroom
mgmt program that will allow the students to record themselves. Hence,
the most effective way to incorporate a language lab into the curriculum
ot select the days that you would normally meet in classroom, and work
on pronunciation, diction, and listening-response. Most
universities/colleges that have the funding to suppport such an endeavor
uses some form of hardware/software to accomplish what I just mentioned.
Examples would be Genesis(www.linguatronics.com), Smartclass by Robotel,
& http://www.brattonlabs.com/Sony.html (I did not the interface of
Sony's product, but I do like the multi-teacher log-in.)

I hope this helps.
