Special Session of the Kentucky Foreign Language Conference
April 20-22, 2006 in Lexington, KY
The Wiki-World Web: Digital Collaboration Models in Language,
Literature, and Culture.
Deadline for submission of abstracts: 15 November 2005
As academic institutions digitize their collections, the result is a new
digital (often multimedia) canon that is readily accessible and
searchable by scholars. Increasingly, commentary accompanies these
digital collections, or entire sites dedicated to commentary emerge.
This session analyzes both the digital collections available to foreign
language scholars and the process of collaboration that is behind the
formation of such databases. The session seeks to provide a broad
overview of a variety of these collections (text, image, audio, video)
in order to critically analyze their efficacy in foreign language,
literary, and cultural studies.
Possible submissions could include:
" Critical analysis of major collaborative sites in literary studies.
(e.g. Wikipedia, Gutenberg)
" Overview of how reception in contemporary literature is affected in
the digital age. (Blogs, review sites, etc)
" Survey of materials available in a variety of areas in cultural
studies (e.g. Film studies)
" Pedagogical applications of academic digital asset collections. (e.g.
text based, audio, video, and image repositories)
" Description of digital asset management projects in culture or
literature.
Papers will be 20 minutes in length, followed by a 10-minute discussion
period.

All scholars are invited to submit abstracts. All language sections may
submit proposals for this open section. To encourage multi-language
participation in this panel, papers are to be given in English.
Acceptance of your paper for presentation implies a commitment on your
part to register and attend the conference. All presenters and attendees
must pay the appropriate registration fee by 15 FEBRUARY 2006 and fill
out the A/V request form to ensure availability of any equipment
necessary for their presentations.
