The review seems to indicate that this doesn't do (non-compressed) PCM
recordings. While avoiding the .mp3 vs. uncompressed debate, one thing to
keep in mind is that when doing post-processing of signals, results are
typically much better when using (lossy) uncompressed data. Not everyone
may need that (more-toward) archival quality, and the amount of recording
that can be done with compression is a real benefit for many field
recordists. The other huge factor, whether recording to digital audiophile
quality or to analog cassette, is what goes in, meaning microphone choice
and technique (including wind control when outdoors), and gain structure
(signal level throughout the chain). Very well done review.
