Job Announcement: Coordinator of the Modern Language Resource Center,
Department of Modern Languages, Carnegie Mellon University.

The Center coordinator will work under the Director to implement the
research and instructional mission of the Department of Modern Languages in
the area of language technology, including supporting the development of
on-line courseware in the context of the Open Learning Initiative at CMU
and the Pittsburgh Science of Learning Center. The Coordinator has
responsibility for the daily operation of the Center, including hiring,
training and supervising work-study desk and media-processing assistants,
maintaining and updating Macintosh and PC workstations and Macintosh
servers, maintaining a media collection, being available to faculty for
consulting on common software/development issues, and overseeing the loan
of high-quality equipment for project use.

Minimum requirements: A degree in computer-assisted language learning or
instructional design, or equivalent experience; Two or more years
experience with Macintosh and Windows operating systems, experience
managing file and web servers on these platforms; knowledge of computer
hardware and software installation; supervisory experience; ability to
troubleshoot web server problems and learn new computer technologies;
ability to work under pressure, handle multiple tasks, prioritize work,
meet inflexible deadlines, deal with demanding individuals while
maintaining composure. Preferred: An  advanced degree in a foreign language
or linguistics; Media and web development; language lab management
experience.
