Dear Loida,
There are a great number of ESL material available on the WWW, particulary a lot
of ideas on http://www.tesol.org/s_tesol/index.asp.
Your material really depends on the objectives of your course (academic,
specific purposes and mainstream), the age group of your students.
For independent learning as well as for teaching purposes I would recommend
using CD-Roms which also offer interactive exercises for practising
listening/reading, writing and speaking.. Student also do the tasks in their own
time which is a great motivator - or at least less discouraging - for students
of lower levels in the class. It also facilitates the job of the teacher that
can monitor their individual progress rather than lecturing them and getting
feedback of one student at a time. I would also suggest using videos that are
relevant visually - cultural insight, body language, etc..), otherwise it
student could miss the listening point by being too distracted with too many
pictures..
Anyway teachers recommend their students to use :
- Issues in English 1 and 2 from Protea software (OZ accent)
- Connected Speech UK and OZ
- Ease Listening to Lectures and seminar skills (Warwick.ac.uk)
- Study Skill Success from Clarity hk, which includes an authorign software that
can allow teachers to create their interactive exercises pretty straight
forwardly.
These are just examples if you have a few computers available for your students
for independent learning, or even better if you have a computer lab.

Hope this helps :-)
Best regards

I need some help on materials for our language lab. I'm
 thinking of videos with
authentic interactions and present different varieties of
 English. I'm also
looking for reliable ESL audio materials that you find
 effective in your own
 classrooms. Thank you.
