>Subject: permissions requests for A New China (Princeton University Press)

Hi everyone,

I am writing to see if anyone has had any success in securing permission
for electronic distribution of media materials from Princeton University
Press. Our Chinese program wanted to give students access to digital audio
for the textbook series A New China within a password-protected, streaming
environment, and submitted a request to that effect. The response from the
press was the following:

"No, I'm afraid we can't approve that use. Since the books and tapes are
in-print and still available through regular channels, we cannot authorize
reproducing the tapes in their entirety."

I am going to follow up with the individual who sent us this reply,
because I don't think she understands what we're asking, but would like to
know about the experience of others on the list with this particular
publisher.

Thanks,
Samantha
