I'm not familiar with how the DISH network works, but cable TV or video
signals can be recorded to hard disk using scheduling software bundled with
analog to digital converter cards, so you wouldn't need DISH to record
digitally; there is an analog to digital conversion process involved, but
given the likely source video quality, that may not be the weak link.
