Dear Colleagues,

At Gettysburg College we teach a good number of foreign languages (Spanish,
French, Italian, German, Japanese, Chinese, Portuguese, Latin and Ancient Greek)
within a two year language requirement.

However, for various reasons we would like to offer our students the opportunity
to study critical languages, such as Arabic, even though we cannot start an
Arabic program on campus. Consequently, we are looking for (accredited)
self-instruction programs our students could complete -- for which we could
award them credit.

I tried to find out if the NASILP (National Association of Self Instruction
Language Programs) offered Arabic, but was informed that any and all information
(beyond what's available on their Web site; http://www.nasilp.org/) was only
available after paying $250.00 in membership fees.

I would appreciate any hints you might have for me.

Gettysburg College also has a very active Study Abroad Program (50% of our
student study abroad), with many countries where the official language is not
one taught on campus. Consequently, we would also be interested in similar
courses for Hungarian, Danish, and Swahili.
