Edith,
I've just started a wiki project with students in an "Intro to the
Literature & Culture of Quebec" course. I'm using the wiki as a means
of coordinating (and integrating, I hope) students' final projects on
cultural topics. I gave them the option of working independently or in
small groups, thinking the wiki would be a good tool for group work.
Interestingly, they've all chosen to work individually on different
topics (Quebecois music, visual arts, educational system, language,
etc.) but they will be required to integrate their subjects with those
of their peers and with a main page (probably a historical overview)
that will be written by a student who chose to serve as editor rather
than explore a specific content area.
One of the aspects of the wiki that appeals to me is the ability to
edit students' pages directly to indicate corrections, make
suggestions, and even create links. I haven't used blogs in class, so
I can't really offer a comparison. It seems to me that blogs are more
linear, though.
I'll be glad to give you more feedback toward the end of the semester.
