Hi Deanne, here is a mail I sent to someone on the list yesterday. I hope it can
be of help !
First of all have a look at the Calico journals, you can check the online
articles there http://calico.org/journalarticles.html. It takes a bit of time to
go through them but if you check volume 13, you may find some interesting
research about CMCs. Margaret Healy Beauvois (uni of Tennessee,Knoxville) has an
extensive experience in the use and research in the matter. Check her name in
google, you will find some her publications.
- J.M. Hudson who wrote an article about his research in the use of Internat
Relay Chat Francais software- IRC)
http://www.coh.arizona.edu/COHlab/software/IRC.html found in CALL Journal (Swets
and Zeitlinger) Volume 15, number 2 April 2002 p109
- Another interesting project about "incorporating e-mail into a Language
Programme" by Eiko Torii-Williams from Wellesley College (MA, USA)
mailto:[log in to unmask] which is another way of using CMC (Computer Mediated
Communication). This article can be found in CALL journal February 2004, vol
17,No.1, pp109-122.
- "Technology-Enhanced Language Learning" by Michael D. Bush and Robert Terry
(1997 by National Textbook Company) provides essential information about a
great range of areas related to ICT in Language Learning and Teaching.

Good luck!

 Hello fellow LLTI'ers,
I am in the process of developing a short introduction to the
 idea of using CHAT
as a language teaching tool (in the effort of bringing to
 light the many recent
research studies on this topic), and since no one here on
 campus has done this
in the past, I am trying to get some ideas for activities to
 suggest as starting
blocks. I am wondering if anybody currently using chat would
 be willing to
share some of their "chat" ideas with myself and with my
 colleagues. All
authors will be recognized when ideas are introduced. Also,
 does anyone have
any good book resources on this topic as well?

We are particuarly looking for activities that would not
 involve outside
 exchanges (at least initially).

 Thank you,
 Deanne Cobb
