So how do Phoebe's colleagues "know" that her dissertation is a translation
of another scholar's "in an obscure language"--have they read the original
and Phoebe's copy, or are they just repeating a rumor?
It just seems odd to me that everybody except her grad school, the
department chair, the human resources staff, and the dean would know that.
I doubt the local sensationalist paper would care.
