>Subject: Technology training Questionnaire

Dear LLTI Colleagues;

I am wondering if you can help me, on a very important project that I
am working on for the University of Virginia. We are trying to
address the issue of training for our computer support providers,
here at the University. We are all facing budget shortfalls and yet
we want to keep our technical expertise as high as possible. We are
looking into an assortment of training possibilities; hiring a in
house trainer, to source our training needs, training via video etc.

How does your school deal with training of technicians under such a
short budget?
Does your management give adequate time for technicians to learn new
skills needed to stay current with technology?
Is there a program in place at your school for training? Does it work
adequately? What are it's shortfalls? Can you describe the current
program that you have for training?
Does your school have a basic Competency Skills Assessment for your
technicians?
Is there a fear or a reality of technicians leaving the University
setting for the Corporate setting once they have been trained? How
does your institution deal with that?

If you have the time please respond to this questionnaire. If you are
not the correct person, could you please direct this to someone in
your institution that can help me with this.

I thank you very much.
If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me.
