Dear Mary Beth,
Assuming you are referring to the need to OCR Japanese (i.e. scan into
editable text) I can recommend Read IRIS Pro and its "Asian OCR Add-on" for
Windows. We run it under Windows XP with an Epson 1680 scanner (i.e. nothing
terribly fancy) and we get pretty good accuracy on the OCR end as long as
the hard-copy original is of good resolution. Accuracy is best when the
original is of very high resolution and/or if we scan from a xerox which has
blown up the type size of the original (to something larger than 12 point).
