FOREIGN LANGUAGE TECHNOLOGY CONSULTANT: Working hours are 8:30 am - 5:30 pm.
Report to the Instructional Technology Coordinator (ITC) of the Center for
Digital Humanities (CDH), the Foreign Language Technology Consultant (FLITC)
assist the ITCoordinator in overseeing the Instructional Technology
Consultant (ITC) program. Support the academic mission of faculty of the
Humanities Division, with particular responsibility for language instruction
and instructors. Assist in the leadership of a team of consultants that
provide technical support to faculty who use educational technology; plan,
develop, document and provide training in the use of instructional
technology; support all aspects of the Humanities E-campus Class Web sites
for foreign languages. Consult with faculty, staff and students throughout
the Division, analyzing instructional technology needs and making
recommendations to the ITCoordinator, the Academic Services Manager and
Assistant Director. Participate in teams dedicated to the support of faculty
instruction and research that has a large IT component. QUALIFICATIONS: The
Technical Coordinator for Foreign Languages Computing (Programmer Analyst
III) reports to the ITCoordinator, but works independently with minimal
instruction, accepting challenging circumstances, taking initiative to solve
problems where solutions are not always readily apparent, and prioritizing
tasks while working in the midst of frequent interruptions. On a daily
basis, the Programmer Analyst III is responsible for ensuring smooth and
efficient operations in the Instructional Technology consultants laboratory
and jointly leads the ITC team in conjunction with the Instructional
Technology Coordinator.

SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to jointly lead a team of technology consultants to ensure the
smooth and efficient operation of the Instructional Technology Consultant
program..  Ability to hire, train and supervise others so that the use of
information technology in instruction is supported and promoted in the
Division of Humanities..  Ability to formulate and implement clear policies
and procedures to ensure smooth operation of computer laboratories and the
instructional technology consultant program.  Demonstrated skill in writing,
using word processing and electronic mail software, to compose and edit
letters, memoranda, reports and other material in a concise and logical
manner.  Detailed knowledge of issues regarding the use of information
technology in Humanities instruction, with particular emphasis on issues in
foreign language instruction. Ability to teach others about these issues.
Ability to make oral presentations on technical matters and train users at a
variety of levels on the use of relevant software.  Skill in coordinating
people and resources to successfully achieve medium and long term goals.
Ability to collect information from distinct sources, collate and analyze it
for presentation in succinct and accurate reports.  Skill in tactical and
strategic planning.  Ability to write HTML using HTML editors or text
editors.  General knowledge of network technologies and protocols, PC,
Macintosh and Unix operating systems in order to use these technologies and
to assist others in their use.  Working knowledge of scripting languages to
assist with the development of instructional web sites.  Working knowledge
of interface design, development and testing to assist with the development
of instructional web sites.  General knowledge of perl, php, java, or other
coding languages as necessary to assist where appropriate in the development
or maintenance of class web sites.   Detailed knowledge of web browsers on
multiple operating systems to debug and evaluate the functionality and
design of class web sites, with particular emphasis on foreign language
issues.  Demonstrated knowledge of issues with respect to foreign and second
language instruction and instructional technology to assist faculty and
students engaged in language instruction.  Demonstrated ability to design
and effectively manage paper and electronic records systems and procedures
for use by a varied clientele.  Skill in establishing rapport and gaining
the trust of others.  Skill in listening perceptively and conveying
awareness.  Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative
working relationships with faculty, students and staff of various social,
cultural and educational backgrounds.  Skill in participating in project
teams whether acting as team leader or in another role to ensure the success
of team projects.
