Cheng & Tsui just came out with audio CDs for Integrated Chinese Level 1
Part 1. It is a set of 4 CDs, 3 for the textbook and 1 for the workbook.
According to Ted Yao, one of the co-authors, who teaches here at the
University of Hawaii, CDs are in the works for Integrated Chinese Level 1
Part 2 and for Level 2. They are color-coded to match the color of the
textbooks. We, too, are thinking of digitizing the audio materials and
compressing them into Mp3 files, but must first clear up the
license/permissions issue.

I have digitized Level 1 and Level 2. I have also separated out each
dialogue and narrative in Level1Part1 and Level1Part2 (I'm having
difficulty with Level2 because it is ALL in Chinese, but am planning on
having one of my lab workers, who is Chinese, take it on). My concern is,
of course, the permission aspect. Our classes are very small, and we only
digitized the files because the students no longer seem to bring tape
players to campus. We obtained permission for the number of copies we
needed, only. I will be happy to share if the legalities are met.

I am inquiring to see if anyone has already digitized the audio for
Integrated Chinese Level 1, Part 1 and 2 and would be willing to have them
posted at the IALLT digital exchange website.

We currently own Integrated Chinese Level 1, Part 1 and 2 audiotapes that
we have used in the lab for years. I would prefer not to have to digitize
them myself if others already have them available. I realize that we
would have to get permission and pay Cheng and Tsui to have the right to
post the digitized audio files in a password-protected environment.

Please let me know. Thank you.
