>Subject: Replace Panasonic AG-W1

------------------
Hello colleagues!
Our Panasonic AG-W1 VCR player/copier/converter seems to be dying.
Lately we've been experiencing poor (terrible) sound quailty when
converting PAL to NTSC. Additionally, when converting NTSC to PAL
(haven't tried the other way around), we now get black and white only
and no sound. This happened while copying/converting several pieces of
NTSC tape onto one PAL tape. The first few scenes (all from the same
tape) are fine. We didn't change any settings or alter anything at all.
It seems to have happened when we inadvertently left the REC button on
the AG-W1 on while fast-forwarding the NTSC tape. Could this have
"confused" the AG-W1 as it tried to display/convert this too-fast-moving
image? In any case, I have two questions:
1) Anyone experienced anything like this? Is it fixable?
2) I have some (limited!) funds to purchase a replacement. Any
suggestions? It seems that AG-W-3 at $999.99 is Panasonic's current
model. Are there other comparable units from other manufacturers?
Thanks,
Carine
