Dear Edith,

This topic was partially covered in topic #7070.  Back then, I suggested 
DVD Idle software for the Windows OS (http://www.dvdidle.net/).  We 
evaluated it and have since licensed DVD Region-Free for our operation. 
 No region hacks are needed which could render OEM or aftermarket drives 
useless. More importantly, no user intervention is required to set the 
region on other region-encoded DVDs, and it works with most DVD player 
software.  A copy of DVDIdle's 4/03 email on educational pricing appears 
below.  If you are using Mac OS based computers, you might want to 
review the University of Utah's white paper on the issue 
(http://www.macos.utah.edu/Documentation/DVDRegionFree/RegionFree_Main.html).
