I forgot to mention:

While we use a trip counter for our own statistics, if students check 
out anything (tapes, software, etc) we swipe their cards and scan the 
bar code on the item and our own database tracks it. We don't measure 
"sit time." If they use any of the on-line stuff, regardless from 
where they do it, they have to log on through the database driven web 
app and are thus tracked as well.
