Creation of a language school using Blended Learning with TeLL
                  me More

Blended learning is the most complete language learning
solution. It refers to the combination of the more traditional
teaching methods (individual or group lessons) with the more
technology based e-learning methods (online language learning
software coupled with online tutor guidance).

Blended Learning offers the unique opportunity to learn a
foreign language at the time and place you choose. It
minimises the number of classroom hours yet maximises their
value ensuring that the learner makes the best use of the time
available to him/her. The flexibility of Blended Learning
means that even the busiest company Director can find time to
                  develop language skills.

NewLanguage (www.newlanguage.net), a language school based in
Ireland, tells us how it developed an innovative English
language training programme based on TeLL me More.

Auralog: What is the role of TeLL me More at NewLanguage?

TeLL me More provides NewLanguage with up to 1,600 hours of
highly interactive language learning content. It is used under
the supervision of expert English language trainers and
enables them to know exactly how and when the learner is
studying. TeLL me More also enables the learner to access the
tutor online at any time and obtain a quick response to any
questions or problems he or she may have.

Auralog: What are the benefits of TeLL me More for
NewLanguage?

At NewLanguage, the average learner studies 20 hours per week.
However, thanks to TeLL me More, the learners are free to
decide where and when they study. So, if they are early
risers, they could start at 6 a.m. and finish at 10 a.m., they
then have the rest of the day free for other activities. The
only fixed times for study are the classes with the trainer.
With TeLL me More, NewLanguage can also chart the attendance
and progress of its learners throughout the course.

Auralog: How does the Blended Learning solution compare to
                  traditional teaching methods?

Blended learning allows us to offer a highly flexible language
learning solution to our learners. It enables learners to
follow the course at their own pace and does not require them
to live in proximity to the school due to infrequent visits.
However, when the learners do visit the school the
face-to-face sessions with the tutors are extremely
productive. The fact that the learners are not physically
confronted with a classroom situation straight away allows
them to overcome certain inhibitions such as expressing
themselves in the foreign language in public. TeLL me More
allows the learners to practice and develop their language
skills at home and ultimately pinpoint any real language
difficulties. The face-to-face sessions enable the learners to
talk through these difficulties with the tutor to resolve the
                  problem.

Auralog: How have the tutors found working with Blended
                  Learning and TeLL me More?

We found that it was accepted quite easily. At first our
tutors registered to learn another language with TeLL me More
(e.g. Spanish or French). This gave them first hand experience
of using TeLL me More as if they were the learners. A couple
of weeks later the tutors then learnt how to use the tutor
tools. Thanks to these experiences the tutors were better able
to help and support their learners and, more importantly,
integrate the e-learning with the classroom sessions thus
                  providing a superior learning experience.

Auralog: Would you recommend blended learning to other
                  training institutes?

To implement blended learning successfully, you need to have
tutors who are keen to work with modern technology and are
flexible enough to consider new ways of learning. These days
people use computers all the time and do not have any
difficulty learning 'from a computer'. Consequently, more and
more large corporations have turned to e-learning to train
employees far and wide. As a result, it is also important for
language schools to launch themselves into this new
pedagogical approach and complete the e-learning experience by
                  offering Blended Learning.
