>Subject: Video Conferencing/NetMeeting

Hello colleagues!
Here's hoping you have time for another inquiry in the waning days of
the spring semester (assuming you're in the U.S. and on a semester
system)....
Here at St. Lawrence University we've made occasional use of NetMeeting
to allow our upper level Spanish students to see and talk to our
students studying abroad in Madrid. Lately we've run into a few snags
and have decided it's time to explore various video conferencing
options. I have two broad questions:
1) For those who've used NetMeeting:
a) What version of the ILS software are you using and on what type (OS)
of server?
b) Our ils server is behind a firewall. We use VPN generally to get
through the firewall but so far haven't had any luck getting NetMeeting
to work since the firewall was installed. Off-campus users are not
"seen" in the directory (yes the settings are correct). Has anyone else
experienced anything like this? Our IT folks are certain the
firewall/VPN piece has nothing to do with the troubles. We have no
trouble "meeting" on campus, only when one or both parties are off
campus.

2) For those who have experience with other video conferencing setups,
especially in a small college without a dedicated room for such
pursuits, what do you use?

Thanks in advance,
Carine
