------------------

to produce a macron over the letter "o" in Word on Macintosh

In an open word document
Press Command F9
on the keyboard to create a an empty field. It appears as two curly brackets
{ }.

Enter the following code between the curly brackets

eq \o(¯,o)

You can enter the macron bar by using insert symbol (normal text) and
selecting character 248 (Unicode Character 175)

Control click over the field code and select toggle field to view the letter
"o" with macron in the document.

I tested this successfully with both Word 2001 on OS9 and Word X on OSX.
