my information re: this player's capability to playback DVD-R came from the
unit's manual.... it states various formats - not among them DVD-R. I'll
check it out and post within the next couple of days. (No DVD-R at hand at
the momoment)

Think about the unintended benefit for a media center/library concerned with
copyright laws not being able to play DVD-Rs.
