I asked someone on campus who is very involved with FC Pro and FC Express
issues to comment. He also includes some important links for FC Pro and FC
Express users.

Hi Mark,

Dropped frames can be the result of several things: not only drive speed but
if it's a dedicated media drive on at least a two drive system (7200 spin
with a 2MB buffer, 8MB preferred, and defragmented), if the system resources
are free and clear (reboot before capture, no other apps open, and no
background apps trying to share resources and memory; for example, one of
the great advantages of pre-OSX Macs was the ability to start-up with
minimal extensions), and ensuring that this is attempted an a system with
sufficient overall internal bandwidth. We always used to say capturing DV
was primarily a bandwidth issue, not necessarily an issue of CPU speed.
That's the primary reason why some people prefer SCSI over IDE (though the
new 8MB buffer IDE drives are as fast as SCSI), and why you can use a 500
MHZ Pentium III to capture DV. The same was and is true for analog capture,
for the most part (of course there are other things that could always be
looked at).
