Hello!

Y'all may not know that I've moved from Dallas to Des Moines, where I'm the founding director of Drake's new Language Acquisition Program. This is our second semester of operation, and we're growing and thriving. Clayton Mitchell, who worked with me at SMU, is now the Director of the Jane Evans Language Center. We make extensive use of multimedia and online materials, and we're looking for two additional people to help us in this very exciting venture.

Second Language Acquisition Specialists

Drake University Language Acquisition Program seeks applicants for two full-time 12-month, renewable positions in the College of Arts and Sciences.  Position 1 is a second language acquisition specialist for non-European languages and requires fluency in Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, or Arabic. Position 2 is a second language acquisition specialist for European languages  and requires fluency in French, Italian, German, or Spanish. In addition to language fluency, qualifications for both positions include M.A. in Second Language Acquisition or related field; Ph.D./ABD preferred; knowledge of foreign language computing; strong people skills, and research skills. Teaching experience is preferred. Responsibilities include administration, monitoring, and assessment of directed independent language studies (DILS) related to the position for which making application; collaborating with Consulting Professor/Examiners in choosing course materials and developing syllabi for DILS courses; training and mentoring native-speaking Language Partners; monitoring student practice sessions and coaching DILS students. The successful candidate may also co-teach a Language Learning Strategies course and develop or adapt language-specific course materials for use online. Positions report to the Director of the Drake University Language Acquisition Program (DULAP)  Review of applications will begin March 15 and continue until positions are filled.
